Lush dense vegetation of the Azores

The Salto do Prego trail, also known as Sanguinho trail, is the favourite among many hikers of São Miguel. The trail is located in one of the most remote areas of the island, densely covered in lush vegetation, including some plants native to the Azores.

Feel like an early settler of the Azores, exploring the inside of the island from the seaside up. Walk parallel to a lovely water stream, enjoying the sound and views of the running water, until reaching one of highlights of the day - the beautiful waterfall of Salto do Prego. You can even enjoy a swim in the water pool if the weather is warm and you feel like cooling down from the hike up.

Take a different path on the way back and go across Sanguinho, a tiny village that was abandoned for years and is now gaining new live. You'll feel like you time travelled to the past!

Towards the end of the trail, enjoy wonderful views of Faial da Terra a small picturesque town by the sea.
